We restore his memory. We rebuild in his name. We release him to the mercy of Allah. This is not a record of how he left — it is the honoring of how he lived.
Who He Was
The Boy With The Infectious Smile
Born in Baltimore — a born leader, loved by everyone he met.
Demetrius was a curious, precocious child with a smile and a set of dimples that would just draw you in. He had a great love for life — for football and dirt bikes, for swimming and wrestling, for video games and the people he came up with. He was a born leader, and he flourished in it.

What He Loved
Captain. Rider. Competitor.
Captain of the football team. First on the field, first on the bike.
And when he rode, he carried others with him.
His Heart For People
He Made A Difference
Meechie worked with Baltimore City Recreation & Parks as a community aide and lifeguard. He loved helping people — from working with seniors to teaching young children how to swim. He had a mind for building, too: a young entrepreneur with his own snow-removal and landscaping work before most his age had found their feet.
His Faith
He Chose His Path
As a young man, he took his Shahada — December 13, 2021.
He carried his faith with him — quietly, and in plain sight.
His Mother
His Right Hand, His Sure Bet
The one relationship Meechie knew for certain was the one he shared with his mother.

A Message From His Mother, Kenya
“I was not being mean and erky… as you would say. I was just trying to prevent all of this from happening. I want you to know that I love you. Lots of love, and a broken heart.”
— Mom
His Love
More Than Friends
Meechie and Dior — each other’s confidant, protector, and best friend.
His People
Held Forever, By Many
The baby of the family — loved most by his siblings, and the center of a wide circle.
He is carried always by his devoted mother Kenya — his right hand and his sure bet; his fathers Dameon Sr. and Derek, and stepfather Tarik; his siblings Ra’Sean, Sydney, and Darius; his grandmother Carolyn; his nieces Kolbi and Kori and nephew Chase; his godparents James Sr. and LaQuitta; his brothers in spirit Paul, Marquise, Joe, and Jordan; his childhood sweetheart Dior; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones beyond counting. His name lives in every one of them.
Where It Began

Always learning, always reaching — the curious boy who became a leader.
How They Carry Him
Forever Big Boy Meech
A whole city lifted his name — in light, in ink, in love.
The Community Gathered
His City Spoke His Name
Downtown, beneath his billboard, at the gathering his mother held — where his family, community leaders, and Coach Herb stood to speak about Demetrius, and to the city he came from.

Say His Name
He had a name. He had dreams. He had a future.
He mattered. He still does.
His family keeps his name alive, and turns this grief toward something that protects the next young life. Stop shooting. Start striving. Choose peace. Pursue education. Build the future he believed in.

Coach Herb with the young ones he poured into — Meechie among them.
I knew this young man when he was just a boy. I coached him. I watched him lead before he had the words for it. I grew up with his mother, Kenya, and I carry her son as my own. This Crest is my promise that his name will not fade — that Demetrius mattered, that he still does. We restore his memory. We rebuild in his honor. We release him to God.
